Notice is hereby given that the ninth executive council meeting of Hong Kong Society of Critical Care Medicine (HKSCCM) will be held at conference room of D6 (ICU) of QEH on 21 July 2009 at 1730 for the following purposes:
 
1.          To confirm minutes of the sixth council meeting held on 19 May 2009;
2.          To report progress of the following matter arising
n          Company registration and opening of bank account (Dr Chan Wai Ming);
n          Joint scientific symposium with HKACCN (Dr Tang Kam Shing);
n          Report of HKSCCM website (Dr Lau Chun Wing);
n          Drafting of HKSCCM position statement on CABSI (Dr Chan Wai Ming);
n          Official affiliation with APACCM and Critical Care Shock (Dr Philip Lam)
3.            To receive report on APACCM council meeting on 5/7/2009 (Dr Philip Lam)
4.            To discuss on setting up HK Critical Care Foundation ( Dr Lau Chun Wing)
5.            To discuss on CNE application for inter-hospital grand round ( Chairman);
6.            To transact any other business
n            Signing of “Declaration of Vienna”, ESICM motion to promote patient safety in Intensive Care Medicine
n            To set up a Human Swine Influenza Forum in HKSCCM website

I.                           Confirmation of last minutes
n          Minutes was adopted with no amendment

II.                       Company registration and new account open
n          Even after further waiting for two more months, the Inland Revenue Department still cannot issue the certificate of tax exemption. The auditor advised council not to wait for that certificate in view of the urgency of bank account.
n          Therefore a new bank account was opened using Business Registration document. The bank account is not yet regarded as owned by non-profit making company
n          Auditor will inform us once the certificate of tax exemption is ready so as to modify the bank account

III.                    Joint ASM of HKSCCM and HKACCN
n          The programme had been finalized and all speakers had been confirmed. The applications to present in free paper session of ASM are still being reviewed by Dr Ching, and selection will be made as soon as possible.
n          Oversea speaker expressed his preference to extend his stay in Hong Kong. In return, he has agreed to travel by air using economy class.
n          Sanofi had re-iterated her interest to offer sponsorship despite initial withdrawal from organizing committee’s invitation. Dr Tang will negotiate with Sanofi although the sponsorship package had been finalized sometimes earlier before council meeting. Surplus will be quite likely at the end.
n          All HKSCCM and HKACCN council members will be exempted from enrollment fee

IV.                        HKSCCM website
 
n         Editor-in-Chief reported that the cumulative content hit rate of HKSCCM web site (www.hksccm.org) had reached >70,000 since its opening.
n         All members are encouraged to support this website to make it even more popular by submitting more interesting articles and cases
 
 
 
 
 
 
V.                  HKSCCM position statement on CABSI
 
n          Guideline from existing source is being amended to match the situation of local units
n          “Adequate sterile field” will be used to replace the earlier idea of “sterile strap”
n          Emphasis is made on the need of taking two blood cultures of febrile episode
n          Dr Yan suggests to seek comments from CHP on aspects of prevention

VI.                 Affiliation with APACCM
n           Details of requirement and duty and necessary expenses will be sought via Dr Gavin Joynt of PWH
n           Estimated yearly subscription is likely USD 120 (extrapolated from Singapore’s experience)
n           Council agrees to affiliate with APACCM

VII.                  Critical Care Foundation
n            Editor-in-chief has prepared the proposal of setting up of critical care foundation, and soft copies had been distributed among council members.
n            Aim is to promote critical care medicine in HK and to draw public awareness. Funding will be utilized to sponsor individual training, scientific researches and academic symposium
n            Initially, the foundation will work as a taskforce under HKSCCM. It is expected to be operated independently after a few years.

VIII.                Application of CNE for grand-rounds
n            The application is already in progress

IX.                     AOB
n            In view of the upsurge of severe cases of H1N1, HKSCCM website will set up a H1N1 discussion forum in its website to provide platform for critical care physician to share and exchange ideas and experiences. Login is required and will be limited to HKSCCM members only. Logistics will be worked out by the webmasters and secretary
n            ESICM will announce “Declaration of Vienna”—-the campaign to promote patient’s safety in intensive care unit, in her coming annual conference. HKSCCM was invited to join the campaign. A representative, preferably a council member, will need to attend the conference and sign the declaration on behalf of HKSCCM. Council member(s) or senior critical care physicians who are interested to attend the annual conference may contact chairman for arrangement (registration fee for ESICM conference will be waived)
