Managing Patients with VV-ECMO
Simulation Course for Nurses

The Managing Patients with VV-ECMO – Simulation Course for Nurses will be held on 24th, 29th February and 2nd March 2012 by the Department of Intensive Care, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH).

VV-ECMO therapy is a life-saving therapy for respiratory failure patients who fail conventional mechanical ventilation. It has been adopted in our department since 2009 H1N1 Influenza pandemic. In order to make this therapy possible, nursing support is mandatory.

The present course is a two-half-day programme consisting of three hours lectures and five hours simulation workshop. In the simulation workshop, a group of ten participants will be taught on various practical aspects of VV-ECMO including priming, setting up an ECMO circuit and trouble shooting. You can refer to the attached poster for more detailed course content.
