Highlights of the forty–second Council meeting on 23rd Sept 2014
1. Auditor’s report and summary of accounts for period ended on 31st March 2014 is still in process. Treasurer will urge Hon Auditor to submit the report to council for consideration before the coming AGM 2014.
2. In the coming AGM 2014, council re-election will be due. Dr. Alfred Chan will retire from chairmanship but will continue to serve in council as advisor. The nomination of councilmembers of year 2015-2016 must arrive the secretary at 21 days before AGM or earlier, and the candidate must be an existing fully-paid HKSCCM members.
3. The ASM 2014, being held on 30th Nov, has the program almost completely finalized. There will be 3 plenary lectures to be given by overseas speaker and a nursing session to be arranged by HKACCN. On-line registration is now opened, and the poster of ASM will soon be released. Most of the sponsors are confirmed. Council members are reminded to encourage staff of respective units to participate the free-paper presentation and SIMWar.
4. The project of community promotion is led by the committee chaired by Dr. Shum Hoi Ping. There are 2 PR companies being considered as the organizers of this project, and the Poplink was finally engaged. The date will be in 2Q of 2015. We are still looking for opportunity to collaborate with the medical student society of HKU to host health exhibition.
5. The revised position statement for “Certification of cessation of brainstem function” has been circulated in the council, and the council adopted the statement in meeting. The statement will be released to absorb opinions from senior ICU clinicians, and will then be presented to Hospital Authority.
6. The minutes of first Winfocus ITU meeting was presented by USG subcommittee. It is noted that Winfocus will host 2 echo courses in March 2015, in which instructors being recruited will be given honorarium. HKSCCM will support individual members to assist Winfocus ITU, but will decline the role of co-founding organization.
7. HKSCCM will co-organize an evening symposium of “Ventilator synchrony” with Covidien on 23rd October 2014.
