2012 Nov 16-19 – ASM of the HK Society of Child Neurology & Developmental Paediatrics

Dear Dr. Yan (WW),

I noted, to my delight, that you are Chairman of HKSCCM, which is an organization we would like to reach out to for the upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting of our HK Society of Child Neurology & Developmental Paediatrics (HKCNDP). This year’s focus will be on Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) for patients, particularly those in intensive care. HKCNDP has invited an expert on this subject from Harvard University, who is an expert on AAC for patients with severe communication difficulties. Needless to say, patients in ICU are top of the list in communication difficulties.

I am enclosing programme information for your and your society’s information. Although we are from paediatrics, the subject applies to all patients, young and old, who have serious communication impairment and serious respective need. When they are in intensive care and high dependency care, or discharged with significant disability, effecting communication access is very much part of what brings patients back to meaningful life.

I would be grateful if you could have a look at the attached documents, and forward it to colleagues in your field. This is a joint effort between our Society and colleagues in HA, to promulgate this most important aspect of life that we often omit in our medical care.

In case you need further information on the seminar, please contact Ms Melissa Leung copied in this mail, for logistic information on attendance.
