Dear Colleagues,
Managing Patients with VV-ECMO, A Simulation Course for Health Care Professionals
The Managing Patients with VV-ECMO – Simulation Course for Health Care Professionals will be held on 7th, 11th and 13th September 2012 by the Department of Intensive Care, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH).
VV-ECMO therapy is a life-saving therapy for respiratory failure patients who fail conventional mechanical ventilation. It has been adopted in our department since 2009 H1N1 Influenza pandemic. In order to make this therapy possible, a whole team of health care professionals including nursing support is mandatory.
This ECMO simulation course has been organized for two times already and had received excellent comments from majority participants. The present course has been modified according to the feedbacks from previous participants. This course consists of three hours lectures and a simulation workshop which are either a five hours basic or seven hours advanced workshop. In the simulation workshop, a group of ten participants will be taught on various practical aspects of VV-ECMO including priming, setting up an ECMO circuit and trouble shooting in the basic workshop. The advanced simulation workshop will cover oxygenator changing during VV-ECMO, conversion to high flow VV-V ECMO and V-VA ECMO variant in addition to all the components of basic workshop. You can refer to the attached poster for more detailed course content.
