As quoted from the book “Anaesthesia & Intensive Care in Hong Kong. Evolution & Present Position” by Z. Lett and Ronald Lo Joy-Wah, there was a special story about the registration of HKSCCM. Click Read More for the story.
“While the establishment of the HKSCCM, although protracted, was on the whole uneventful, the actual registration produced a somewhat amusing twist. The then Hon. Secretary Ronald LO Joy-Wah was subjected to unexpected and probing questioning when required to attend an interview at the police station (where the Registration of Societies was carried out at the time). The Station Sergeant, it transpired, had difficulty in understanding the term “Critical” in the term “Critical Care Medicine”, and so the budding Society was possibly suspected of being a “pressure group”. Once this misunderstanding was cleared up, the Society was legitimized and went on to become a full member of the World Federation of Societies of Critical Care Medicine.”
