2010 Sep 21 – The Sixteenth HKSCCM Council Meeting

Highlights of the Sixteenth Council meeting on 21 Sept 2010
1. The webmaster of HKSCCM website had solved the technical problem encountered by visitors in the last few months. New features such as RSS news feeds of major newspapers and medical news have been incorporated by the editor-in-chief.

2. Pamphlets of patient education on ICU-related topics are undergoing process of translation into Chinese, and will be released on HKSCCM website once available. Meanwhile, there is ongoing collaboration with industry in designing “Sheet of communication” to enable communication between conscious intubated patients and healthcare staff.
3. The workflow on CCMF application and the policy of CCMF subsidy will be reviewed by a subcommittee constituted by Chairman; Secretary; Treasurer and Dr KI Law. Suggestion made will be discussed in council meeting.
4. Several HKSCCM position statements are in process of drafting, including artificial liver support; therapeutic hypothermia; cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transfusion issue in severe trauma.
5. Hong Kong Society of Clinical Toxicology (HKSCT) and HKSCCM had jointly issued an open letter to the Food & Health Bureau of HKSAR government to suggest setting up a hospital-based treatment facility for hyperbaric oxygen.
6. HKSCCM annual scientific symposium will be held on 12 December 2010 (Sunday) as a whole-day program.
7. Those council members, who choose to retire from office after the current term of service expires, shall submit nomination of candidate for election on or before 31 October 2010 to secretary.
8. The editorial board of book publication had held its first meeting. The content of articles will be based on true patient’s stories, with modification in order to match purpose of patient education. Apart from invitation and coordination by committee members, open calling for articles will be made on HKSCCM website. Any surplus after book publication will be transferred to CCMF.
9. HKSCCM will continue to subscribe membership fee of Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine (APACCM). Dr HY So (Director of AICU of PWH) is appointed as representative of HK in APACCM council.
