Notice is hereby given that the fourteenth executive council meeting of Hong Kong Society of Critical Care Medicine (HKSCCM) will be held at conference room of D6 (ICU) of QEH on 18th May 2010 at 1730 for the following purposes:

1. To confirm minutes of the thirteenth council meeting held on 23rd March 2010;
2. To report progress of the following matter arising
 Calling of EGM and preparation (WW Yan/ Alfred Chan/ KI Law);
 Report of HKSCCM website (CW Lau);
 Setup of Patients’ area
 Area of “Council meetings agenda & minutes”
 Report of CCM Foundation (WW Yan);
 Policy of CCMF and scope of sponsored activities (KS Tang);
 Application logistics & flowchart of HKSCCM sponsorship (KS Tang);
 Drafting of position statements (WW Yan);
 HBO therapy (WW Yan)
 DVT Prophylaxis (T Li)
 Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (F Yap)
 Artificial Liver support (A Chiu & ST Fan)
 Transfusion policy in Trauma (KY Lai)

1.          Calling of EGM and preparation
n          Annual plan of year 2010 had been sent to legal advisor for review, and wordings will be modified accordingly for final submission to IRD

2.          HKSCCM websites
n          Editor-in-Chief reported that the daily content hit steadily increases to around 1000 per day
n          “Patient area” will be developed; where education information on ICU related matter e.g. pamphlet will be uploaded. Council members are welcome to suggest.
n          “Agenda/ minutes of council meeting” has been set up for members access only by log-in
n          All hospital editors who had not logged in the website for consecutive six months or more will have the editor status being suspended.

3.          Critical Care Medicine Foundation (CCMF)
n          Sanofi had contributed HKD 15,000; Pfizer will soon contribute HKD 15,000
n          HKD 200,000 will be deposited to the CCMF from HKSCCM account
n          The targeted recipients, the policy of grant allocation and the scope of sponsored activities of CCMF will be formally described in document drafted by Dr Tang Kam Shing. The draft will be circulated electronically, and then formally adopted in next council meeting

4.          HKSCCM sponsorship: application logistics & flowchart
n          The executive summary and flowchart prepared by Dr Tang Kam Shing is reviewed and adopted by council
n          Notification from external source of sponsor shall reach secretary for further processing. Dr Tang Kam Shing will be the backup person if secretary is on overseas leave

5.          Drafting of HKSCCM position statements
n          Position statement on hyperbaric oxygen is adopted
n          The one on DVT prophylaxis is in process of internal review within the working group
n          Position statements on the following topics are in processing: artificial liver support; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; therapeutic hypothermia; transfusion strategy in severe trauma. Chairman will send invitation to renowned specialists to lead individual working group.

III.                    To form organizing committee of ASM
n           Preliminary plan: a 1/2 day program at HAHA building with lectures by local units. Preferred date in early December 2010
n           OC members include Dr WL Wan and Dr Philip Lam
n           Dr Yan Wing Wa and Dr Tang Kam Shing will be the advisors of ASM
 
 
 
IV.                   Progress of negotiation with Janssen
n            Secretary had received a statement of request issued by Janssen in return for its contribution to CCMF. The statement requests access to HKSCCM account and the right to review/ overlook the use of funding
n            The request has been solemnly rejected even though CCMF may not be able to receive Janssen donation
 
 
 
 
 
 
V.                        Evening symposium on VAP (Sponsored by Janssen)
n            Speakers from Asia had been invited by Janssen to deliver lectures on ventilator-associated pneumonia on 25th June 2010. HKSCCM is invited to be the principal organizer/ co-organizer of the event
n            Because of crashing of event with multiple academic programs initiated by HKSCM, the invitation is formally declined
 
 
VI.                     Publication of interesting cases in ICU of Hong Kong
n    Aim: to increase public awareness of critical care medicine in Hong Kong through publication of true cases and sharing of academic information
n    Non-profit making nature
n    Chairman; editor-in-chief and secretary had formed the committee. Any HKSCCM members who are interested to join may contact Dr Yan or Dr CW Lau
 
 
VII.                   To appoint HKSCCM council representative from private sectors
n            Dr Chan Kin Wai will leave HA and start his private practice with effect from end of June 2010
n            Council appoint Dr Chan Kin Wai as representative from private sector, where Dr Chan King Chung Kenny continues to be representative from PYNEH
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
VIII.                Review of HKSCCM representatives to other local/ overseas CCM organization

nTo review the need and formally appoint in council meeting if applicable
 
X.                         AOB
n            ESICM had offered a discount price for HKSCCM active members to join ESICM. The council agrees on such offer.
n            Attendance record of all council meetings will be maintained by secretary and it will be under constant review by Chairman. Council members are strongly encouraged to attend
