A case of locally acquired dengue fever involving a 46-year-old man was confirmed by Public Health Laboratory Service Branch of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (September 22).

HAHO has decided to step up the surveillance on Dengue cases from 22 September 2010 to 6 October 2010. Notification and admission criteria are as the followings:
1. Acute febrile illness with TWO or more of the followings:
i. Headache
ii. Retro-orbital pain
iii. Myalgia
iv. Arthralgia
v. Rash
vi. Hemorrhagic Manifestation
vii. Leukopenia
AND
2. History of visiting Deep Water Bay (深水灣) or Middle Island (熨波洲) within the incubation period i.e. two weeks before the onset of symptoms
For case is fulfilling the criteria, please report the case via NDORS and admit the patient with Standard precaution should be followed. If patient refuse admission, please discuss with CHP for isolation order, CHP colleagues can be contacted at:
