1.          Calling of EGM and preparation

n          Legal advisor had reviewed HKSCCM annual plan of year 2010 and suggested modification of the wordings. The revised version had been submitted to IRD

n          After receiving preliminary approval for exemption from Chapter 32 of Companies ordinance, new M&A can be considered either in EGM or Annual General Meeting

2.          HKSCCM websites

n          Editor-in-Chief reported that the cumulative count of content hit had exceeded >300,000.

n          “Patient area” had been setup, and pamphlets of therapeutic hypothermia/ renal replacement and tracheostomy were available to public access. Chinese translation is in progress. All HKSCCM members are welcomed to submit usual information to editor-in-chief.

n          Visitors of HKSCCM website had on and off encountered prolonged difficulty in accessing the content in the last two weeks because of some problems. Webmaster will begin investigation ASAP. Should any form of upgrade is requested from server, council will fully support.

3.          Critical Care Medicine Foundation (CCMF)

n          The policy of CCMF and workflow of its application had been outlined by Dr Tang Kam Shing. The CCMF subsidy document was adopted

n          The document will be posted up to HKSCCM website for open access

4.          Providing HBO Therapy in Hong Kong

n          Since the position statement on hyperbaric oxygen (HOT) being available, professional societies from different specialties had joined HKSCCM for discussion to strengthen provision of HOT in Hong Kong

n          A consensus to provide HOT as hospital-based therapy was reached. Hong Kong Poison Treatment centre will bid for funding to establish the service in future

n          Hong Kong Society of Clinical Toxicology (HKSCT) will liaise with HKSCCM to reflect opinion to Bureau of Food & Health.

5.          HKSCCM position statements

n          Position statement on DVT prophylaxis is adopted

n          The following colleagues had agreed to lead working groups in preparing position statement of other topics

6.           APACCM/ Critical Care & Shock

n          There is still no response from the APACCM board after the subscription being paid. Council will seek advice from Dr HY So (PWH)

7.          2010 Annual Scientific Meeting of HKSCCM

n          Dr Wan Wing Lun was elected as the chairman of after the first OC meeting in last week.

n          Tentative date: 11^th December 2010

n          Tentative venue: 7/ F of Block H, PMH

n          Theme: “Implementation of evidence-based medicine in critical care”

n          Format: half-day symposium consisting of lectures by local experts in intensive care units. Every unit in Hong Kong will be invited to participate

n          ASM will be included as part of the program

n          Dr Wan will recruit more colleagues to join OC. External sponsors will be sourced in due course

8.          Publication of interesting cases in ICUs of HK

n          First meeting will be called in early August

9.          Dual membership of ESICM and HKSCCM

n          Application procedure will be clarified first by communication with ESICM. Members will be informed by secretary for the arrangement later

n           European Diploma Examination (EDA) is now open for candidates and centers outside Europe

n           HKSCCM will inform members for availability of the diploma and provide web-link in HKSCCM web

n            World Federation of Societies of Intensive & Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) organize the congress every four years at countries by rotation

n            MCI approached HKSCCM to ask if council may consider hosting the next congress at HK in 2017.

n            Because of the tremendous scale of the program and the limited size of HKSCCM, the suggestion was declined

n            ECRI is running Healthcare Standards Directory (HCS) Online where healthcare standards/ guidelines and position statements are being archived and hyperlink

n            HKSCCM had been contacted by ECRI for releasing its position statements as part of the HCS

n            Council supports the HCS by providing web-link to the adopted position statements in HKSCCM website

n            AGM will be held as part of ASM.

n            Council members will be due to retire after two-year term finished, but will be eligible for re-election in coming ASM. All council members are advised to consider re-election or to nominate another colleague from his center to take-over his post

n            HA has issued circular concerning the advanced directives of patients. HKSCCM need to consider replying a formal feedback to HA.
