As of 7 Nov 2009, there were 31,865 laboratory confirmed cases of HSI. The highest attack rate were in children aged 5 years to 9 years (2,389 cases/100,000 population), followed by children aged 0-4 years and 10-14 years.
The overall percentage of cases requiring hospitalization from June 27 to September 27 was 13.9% and 1.9% of these hospitalized cases required intensive care. Those aged below 6 years and 65 years or above had higher hospitalization percentage (27.6% and 63.2% respectively). As of 11 Nov 2009, 159 severe cases were reported (0.5%) and 106 required intensive care and 40 cases died. Most of the fatal cases (87.5%) had at least one pre-existing chronic disease or risk factor.
