Healthcare workers don’t seem over-represented among cases of novel H1N1, the CDC says. However, those who became infected early in the outbreak had not observed all infection-control procedures, according to an MMWR report.
WHO Declares that H1N1 Is Pandemic

In an emergency meeting today, the WHO raised the influenza pandemic alert to phase 6 — its highest level. The New York Times reports that this is the first flu pandemic in 41 years.
There have been nearly 30,000 confirmed H1N1 cases across 74 countries. The Times reports sharp increases in the number of infections reported in recent days from Chile, Japan, and the U.K., with the most dramatic increase seen in Australia, where more than 1200 cases were reported earlier this week.
