Dear All,

As you know the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine introduced its own primary exam a few years ago. For those who go straight into Intensive Care training this is the obvious primary exam to take. Those entering Intensive Care training from other specialties are increasingly failing to obtain exemptions from the primary exam. However, it has been difficult for candidates to prepare for this exam and for supervisors to help them because no one in Hong Kong has experience of the exam and the level of knowledge expected. In order to address this deficiency we have invited Gill Bishop (the former Chairperson of the Primary Examiners) and Yahya Shehabi (a Primary examiner) to conduct a course on Basic Sciences in Intensive Care from June 17th to 20th. While this course is primarily aimed at part I candidates it will also be useful to supervisors and those wishing to get a solid grounding in the basic sciences underlying Intensive Care practice.

The cost of the course is $2000 for trainees and $350 for supervisors and includes lunch and refreshments for 4 days.

I would be grateful if you would let your trainees and colleagues know about this course which presents a unique opportunity to get a real insight into the primary exam without travelling to Australasia and at a considerably lower cost than equivalent courses in Australasia. A preliminary timetable and an application form is attached.

Many thanks

Charles Gomersall
